Experimental Watercolor Kitchen – Art Enrichment

After school Art Enrichment classes are working hard on a two week project.  This week we put on our lab coats to experiment on what happens when you mix watercolor with salt, oil, lemon and black sugar.  This half of the project really gets the creative and critical thinking minds going.  Creative Tot Artists got to paint freely with the watercolors, experimenting with brushstroke, color mixing and water control.  At the same time their critical thoughts predicted and tested the reaction our additives would have on the watercolor paint.

Next week these experimental paintings will be used to study shape, balance and unity in composition.  We get to do the unthinkable and rip our paintings into shapes and reassemble them into collages.

Below are some examples of reactions we came up with this week.  More pictures of our final masterpieces coming for next week’s Art Enrichment classes.
